Once in a lifetime snow in Saudi Arabia

사우디아라비아의 평소 건조한 사막이 최근 전례 없는 겨울 풍경으로 변모하였다. 특히 북부 알나푸드 사막의 알조프 지역에서 이러한 현상이 관측되었다.

이 일생에 한 번 있을 법한 사건은 해당 지역에서 처음 기록된 것으로, 뜨겁게 타오르는 모래와 사막으로 잘 알려진 이곳에서는 매우 이례적인 일이다.

일부 영상에서는 눈송이가 모래 위에 쌓이는 장면이 포착되었으며, 다른 영상에서는 낙타 떼가 눈으로 덮인 지면을 걷는 모습이 담겼다.

관광객과 지역 주민들은 차량을 멈추고 이 드문 장면을 감상하며 전례 없는 날씨에 대해 의견을 나누었다.

여름철 이 지역의 기온은 섭씨 51도까지 치솟을 수 있으며, 이는 예측할 수 없는 기상 현상을 초래할 수 있다.

건조한 기후로 인해 월평균 강수량이 0.48인치에 불과한 이 지역에서, 사우디 프레스 에이전시는 해당 지역의 심각한 기상 현상이 폭우와 우박을 동반하며 인근 산악 지역에 눈과 얼음층을 형성했다고 보도하였다.

기상학자들은 아라비아해에서 오만으로 이동하는 저기압 시스템이 수분을 가득 머금은 공기를 건조한 지역으로 끌어들였다고 결론지었다.

이 일련의 사건은 사우디아라비아 일부 지역과 아랍에미리트에 천둥번개와 우박을 유발하였다.

아랍에미리트 국가기상센터는 저기압 시스템의 이동이 급격한 기상 패턴 변화를 초래하여 이 같은 겨울 날씨를 형성했다고 분석하였다.

 

사우디 기상청은 강한 바람과 폭우를 동반한 가혹한 날씨가 예상된다며, 지역 주민들에게 주변 상황에 주의를 기울일 것을 당부하였다.

 

 

Saudi Arabia’s usual bone-dry deserts have recently been transformed into an unforeseen winter scene, particularly in the Al-Jawf region in the northern Al-Nafüd desert.

This once-in-a-lifetime event is the first recorded in the region, which is well known for its scalding sand and deserts. 

Certain footage illustrates snowflakes resting on the sand, and others show groups of camels walking across the layers of snow.

Tourists and locals stopped off the vehicles to view this unusual scene, commenting on the unprecedented weather.

In summer weather, temperatures can reach up to 51 degrees Celcius, resulting in unpredictable meteorological peculiarity. 

The arid climates cause only 0.48 inches of rain during the month. The Saudi Press Agency reported that severe weather occurrences across the region lead to heavy rainfall and hail, which create snow and ice layers in the nearby mountains. 

Metereologists concluded that the low-pressure system transitioning from the Arabian Sea to Oman brought moisture-laden air into the moistureless area. 

This series of events caused thunderstorms and hail in some parts of Saudi Arabia and even the United Arab Emirates. 

The UAE’s National Center of Meteorology further analyzed that the low-pressure system’s movements generated a steep shift in weather patterns, causing this winter-like weather. 

The Saudi Weather Department warned that the harsh weather can cause fierce winds and heavy rainfall, advising locals to be aware of their surroundings.
